We had a fantastic World Book Day at TPA…or should we say World Book Week! After all, why have one day when you can celebrate reading for a whole week? To celebrate our theme: Stepping into a World of Stories, we enjoyed dressing up as our favourite story characters and it was wonderful to see everyone buddying up with their fellow characters at playtime. The adults in school also enjoyed getting involved and we were very impressed with the line up during our World Book Day parade. Did you spot Professor Severus Snape, James Bond, Tin Tin, Little Red Riding Hood, The Hungry Caterpillar, The Highway Rat, Professor McGonagall and Farmer Bunce?
We were also delighted to welcome two fabulous local authors into school – Jackie Doherty and Karen Langtree both joined us during World Book Week. Jackie kindly gave out a copy of her book, ‘Martha the Amazing Stamford Bridge Mouse’ to all the children in Early Years and Key Stage One and Karen Langtree brought her trusty knight, Sir Trumpsalot, with her too. Families may remember that Karen Langtree is our school Patron of Reading and Sir Trumpsalot officially opened our school library by cutting the ribbon a couple of years ago. The children loved our celebration reading assembly at the end of the week where we sung with Sir Trumpsalot and at the end of the school day Karen autographed books for children too.
Since the start of the year we have also been busy with our #getcaughtreading initiative which has been a great way to encourage children to read in school and out. Check out #getcaughtreading on our Twitter feed to see the weird and wonderful ways children have been caught enjoying a great book…or comic! Our special Extreme Get Caught Reading was a special twist on our #getcaughtreading initiative. The children loved to share the fun ways that they brought reading to life. Reading to pets and in some fantastic places certainly made reading the topic of our conversations in our weekly Star Assemblies!
