World Book Day – Enjoying Powerful Poetry
World Book Day – Thursday 4th March
This year for World Book Day we have decided to focus on poetry. This will include performing it, reading it, writing it and rapping it! For Powerful Poetry World Book Day we will be enjoying rhymes, raps, riddles, shape poems and more. We will be exploring the poetry of famous poets such as Michael Rosen, Roger McGough and TS Eliot.
Some of our teams will be linking their Powerful Poetry to their creative curriculum learning. In F2 Paddington will be heading to the Arctic so the children will be writing Arctic poems and F1 will be painting pictures based on the poetry they read.
The children will not be asked to dress up for World book Day this year as we felt at the moment this would be trickier for parents and carers to organise.
Throughout the day we will give the children at home and at school the opportunity to win book prizes for great learning. We will be encouraging the children to find somewhere comfy, grab a
poem to read and maybe even a tasty hot chocolate too!
Poetry is the rhythmical creation of beauty in words. ~ Edgar Allan Poe
Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all
~ Emily Dickinson
