Communication & Language

At Tadcaster Primary Academy we understand the importance of Communication and Language and how evidence consistently shows that communication and language approaches benefit young children’s learning. We ensure communication and language is a priority for all children here at Tadcaster. There are many activities that expose children to rich vocabulary and language such as reading books and pretend play. These activities are important but how the adult engages with the child during these activities is key. Our EYFS staff have worked with and used the most recent research to ensure the ways in which we engage with young people is highly effective.

The Communication and language approaches we use in the early years include:

• teaching and modelling vocabulary
• teaching and modelling language
• interactive reading
• teaching through collaborative talk
• teaching and modelling social communication skills
