Early Years – Nursery & Reception

Welcome to Early Years at Tadcaster Primary Academy!

Our Early Years Unit caters for children from the age of 3 who are entitled to part time education, and 4 year olds who receive full time education. Both age ranges follow the Early Years Curriculum.

Our Reception and Nursery teachers are Mr Foster, Mrs Roche, Miss Ambler and Mr Wall.

Reception

At Tadcaster Primary Academy, we understand that starting school is a very exciting time for your child, and also for you. We also recognise that alongside this, you will have many questions, and even perhaps some concerns, around what starting school will look like for your child. We value building positive working relationships with our new starter parents/carers from the outset, to ensure that transition into our school is as smooth and worry free as possible.

Our school has the most wonderful staff who are completely committed to ensuring that your child is safe, happy and feels well supported; we equally care that our parents/carers feel well supported also, at this important milestone in your child’s life.

We encourage parents/carers to make an appointment to visit the school and have a tour with the Headteacher, this is a great opportunity to see our wonderful school in action and ask any questions you may have.

Nursery

Tadcaster Primary Academy Nursery, we offer provision for 3 to 4 years olds to begin their foundations of learning and journey into school.

Nursery is a very special place full of learning, laughter and friendships where all children are happy, feel safe and valued. We provide the best possible educational provision in a stimulating and creative environment. We pride ourselves on providing a safe, supportive and fun learning environment in which children can explore and discover the world.

At Nursery, we endeavour to ensure that every child has the best possible start to school life, by creating a calm and inviting environment where they feel safe and happy. We believe that relationships are key, both in school and with our families and this supports our little ones to settle quickly and make progress throughout all areas with confidence.

Our Curriculum

Our intent for EYFS is to inspire, engage and enthuse our children to be active learners every day, not just in EYFS but throughout their whole school journey. Children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning is ignited through exciting, open-ended provision areas both inside and outdoors, alongside nurturing and high quality adult interactions, which ensure that children develop the skills needed to learn, form positive relationships and thrive.

Our approach is implemented through following the children’s interests on a daily basis through our play-based curriculum. The balance of child-led learning and adult-guided learning/direct teaching changes as children get older in our EYFS. Our older children have more adult-guided learning and direct teaching. We facilitate a highly stimulating indoor and outdoor environment, which encompasses open ended, natural, authentic and loose parts play provision. Children have access to the outdoors throughout playing and learning time so that they can learn in an environment that compliments their learning style and allows them to make excellent progress. Pond and Beyond is a key part of our curriculum for EYFS children here at Tadcaster, encouraging children to appreciate the world around them.

The impact of our Early Years approach is that when children leave Reception, they are:

  • Happy, resilient, capable, confident and self-assured individuals
  • Strong, inquisitive and independent learners who thrive in all areas of learning and development
  • Capable of developing and sustaining positive relationships within their school community and beyond.
  • The majority of our children, with the exception of children with significant SEND, achieve a Good Level of Development

Pond and Beyond

Our Pond and Beyond sessions take place in the natural environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world. Pond and Beyond activities are designed to engage children across multiple different learning aims, developing practical skills that align (but are not bound to) all areas of the curriculum such as Physical Development, Literacy, Mathematics, Art and Expression, Communication and Language, and Understanding the World.

Children will access our Pond and Beyond area on a weekly basis. Each visit will focus on a different objective. Some of our activities include:

  • Scavenger Hunts
  • Building Bug Hotels
  • Signs of different seasons
  • Den Building
  • Marvellous Mud Kitchens
  • Natural Arts and Crafts

And much more…
