Spring term was certainly a busy one as there was definitely a lot going on in Team TPA. We have loved our learning and the children have enjoyed the many opportunities up for grabs!

In January Mrs Oldfield’s Young Voices choir did a fabulous job of singing their hearts out at Young Voices in Sheffield. It was a fabulous night and the families who joined us shared that they had a wonderful time too.

We also had lots of fun at our TPAC Valentines Disco which our Parents Teacher and Family Association brilliantly organised. The children loved being with their friends and this helped raised funds for school too.

Another highlight was welcoming the Parents into school for Team Neptune’s assembly on My Hidden Chimp. It was impressive to hear the children talk about their learning over the last half term in their sessions with Mr Metcalfe. They then did it all over again for the whole school!

We have certainly valued the opportunity to get out and about in our local community this term and this included visits to the archeological dig for Teams Saturn and Neptune where we became archeologists for the day. Team Neptune also enjoyed a fabulous art project working alongside the artist Eduard Sacrest who helped the children create their very own reading themed mural which is on display at Tadcaster library. The children from Year 1 to Year 4 also spent an afternoon planting trees in the local park – making a difference to our local community.

Team Venus loved their visit from Quinn who brought his fabulous Rolls Royce to show the children what cars looked like in the past and how they had changed. The children asked some excellent questions. They also had a wonderful visit from Farmer Carl too who brought along a lamb and a hen for the children to see.

The end of Spring term was wrapped up with a fantastic Design an Easter Egg competition which the children got stuck into. There was some fabulous designs which won lovely Easter eggs provided by TPAC.

We had a fabulous autumn term with lots of exciting learning going on! Take a look at what we have been busy with over the last few months!

We are really proud of the thirteen Year 5 and 6 children who were successful in completing their Bikeability training on Thursday and Friday last week. The children showed real resilience even with the challenge of heavy rain. The children did a fabulous job of riding their bikes both on the school playground and around the streets of Tadcaster – so much so that they all completed and achieved the Level Two qualification and are now cyclists who know how to keep themselves safe whilst on the road!

Some of the highlights of the Summer term included our annual Sports Days for Key Stage One and Two and for Early Years. Both Sports Day events were a big success and we had a fantastic turn out from families who even braved the rain to watch the children show off their sporty skills including in archery, penalty shoot outs, egg and spoon races and much much more.

We also enjoyed our TPAC Summer Fair which our Parents Teacher and Family Association brilliantly organised. The sun was out that afternoon and we enjoyed the games, refreshments and the support of many different stall holders including Willow Bakes, Five Star Sports, our bouncy slides and many many more. We raised a fabulous £1,145.98 which will go towards offering fabulous opportunities for our school.

We held an ESafety morning which was supported by PC Nicholas Woods and PC Luke Callaghan. Our local policing team delivered an informative presentation about how families can help to keep children safe online which offered a useful opportunity for families to ask questions about this important matter. Families were then invited into classes to see their children learning more about how children can keep themselves safe when using the internet and different devices. It was a great opportunity for Parents and Carers to see how children learn in school and how the computing curriculum progresses throughout their education.

Our After School Dance Club carried out a fabulous performance showing off all the hard work they have put into their weekly dance sessions. It was great to see their creativity and flair and the audience was certainly impressed with the final piece choreographed by our dance teacher Drew from York Dance Space.

At the end of June, the children went off on a wonderful residential for children in Years 4-6 at Dearne Valley residential centre. The children certainly faced their fears whilst flying through the sky on zip lines, building their own raft, taking to the waters and still managing to keep afloat, climbing great heights, abseiling and so much more. Huge thanks go to the fabulous staff team who joined me to give up their weekend to make this possible – Mr Sands, Miss Bell and Mr Foster.

The end of the term saw us say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 cohort at our Year Six Leavers’ Celebration Event. The families and staff helped us give our fantastic Year 6 children a special farewell and also celebrate all that they have achieved in the time they have been at Tadcaster Primary Academy. It was lovely to have a nostalgic moment looking back at how they had changed since the start of their time in school. Special well dones go to Khayen Stringer and Catherine Johnson who received the Headteacher’s Awards for their contribution to school and their fabulous attitudes. Thank you to Mrs Bairstow who made the Leavers’ cake and also for the TPAC volunteers who organised the refreshments.

In the final week of term we celebrated our children’s musical talents within the Early Years Mini Music Makers performance and the Key Stage One and Two Musical Extravaganza which was a fabulous celebration of musical performance and song. Well done to the children for showing real courage in performing in front of an audience of supportive families and thank you to Mrs Oldfield, our Music teacher, who organised the event.

All of this wouldn’t be possible without the support of our families, our PTFA – TPAC, the staff team, and the children of course. A huge thank you to all for making the Summer Term a fabulous celebration of the fantastic learning that goes on in Team TPA! What a year it has been…here’s to more fun and wonderful learning in September!

Learning inside and outside of the classroom!

Over the last few months there has been a lot going on at Team TPA. We have welcomed visitors a plenty and enjoyed some exciting trips out and about.

Team Jupiter had a fantastic trip to Harewood Estate learning all about the countryside and the animals that live in it. The Highland cows (or ‘coos’) were great to see up close. Later in the term the children also enjoyed taking part in a multisports competition at Selby College. The children were fantastic role models and excelled in a variety of sports.

Team Saturn had a great day learning all about sculpture and exploring the work of different artists at a workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Following this, in November the children also enjoyed performing their very own dance piece at ‘Everybody Dance’ at York Theatre Royal. The children did brilliantly and the audience were certainly impressed. This was also a wonderful opportunity for the children to take part in some exciting dance workshops including a break dance session.

This term, Team Neptune had a great day out in York learning how to make pizzas at Pizza Express and also all about the history of chocolate at York Chocolate story. It was a wonderful tasty day out! The girls in Team Neptune also took part in a football tournament at Selby College where they competed against children in other schools as well.

Throughout the course of term we have also had visits from NSPCC, Blue Cross, Tadcaster Fire Service and our local Police Officer, PC Nick Woods. These visits have allowed us to learn all about keeping safe in a variety of ways including around dogs, near water and also online. As part of their history of transport topic, Team Jupiter were also given the opportunity to get up close to a fabulous classic car which was a real treat.

Children in Key Stage One and Two also enjoyed their trip down to our local church, St Mary’s, to celebrate the Harvest Festival. We loved singing our hearts out!

It certainly has been a fabulous term of engaging learning – check out the pictures to see us having lots and lots of fun!

The time has come to say goodbye to our lovely chicks as they head off to their farm to live a long and healthy life. All the children have welcomed Bayley, Dobby, Charles and Tango into our TPA family. Charles was named after he was born on King Charles III Coronation Day.They will be missed, good luck chicks!

On Monday 25th May children in Team Neptune were give the opportunity to participate in a family of schools football tournament at Staynor Hall Primary School, Selby. Twelve children represented Tadcaster Primary Academy and played against Brotherton and Byram Primary, Camblesforth Primary and Staynor Hall Primary. Well done to the children for representing our school so brilliantly.

Team Jupiter had a fabulous trip to Fairburn Ings this week. The children loved the opportunity to go pond dipping and found lots of creatures for our classification activity. The children showed off their prior learning brilliantly and we were very proud of how well they used scientific vocabulary to explain what was happening. Well done Team Jupiter, you certainly are Scientists!
